How to convert your images
- Choose the output format: JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF or BMP.
- Add images in any supported format. Mixed batches are fine.
- Download each file, or use Download all to get a ZIP.
When to use this converter
Use this page when you have a mixed folder of files or want to choose the output format yourself. Add HEIC, WebP, AVIF, PNG, JPG, BMP or GIF files together and convert them to one chosen format.
If you already know your exact pair, the dedicated pages, such as HEIC to JPG, keep things even simpler.
What happens to your image
- Output can be JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF or BMP. GIF is supported as input only.
- Formats without transparency (JPG, BMP) use the background colour you select.
- Animated inputs convert to a still image of the first frame, and each affected file is flagged.
- Metadata such as location and camera model is not copied to the output.
Supported formats
JPG
JPEG (also written JPG) is the format almost every device, website, printer and app accepts. It uses lossy compression designed for photographs and stores 8-bit colour.
PNG
PNG is a lossless format: pixels are stored exactly, so it never adds compression artifacts. It supports full alpha transparency.
WebP
WebP is a format from Google that offers lossy and lossless compression, transparency and animation in one container.
AVIF
AVIF is an image format built on the AV1 video codec. It supports transparency, wide colour and high bit depth, and is usually among the smallest options for a given quality.
HEIC
HEIC is the HEIF container with HEVC compression. iPhones and iPads save photos in it by default when the camera is set to High Efficiency.
BMP
BMP is an old, mostly uncompressed bitmap format. Files are large but simple to read.
GIF
GIF stores up to 256 colours per frame and can hold a simple animation.
Tips
- Resize all files to a maximum width with the resize option when preparing images for the web.
- Download all builds a ZIP and avoids name collisions automatically.
Frequently asked questions
Which formats can I convert?
Inputs: JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, HEIC/HEIF, BMP and GIF. Outputs: JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF and BMP.
Is there a limit to how many files I can add?
There is a batch limit that depends on your device memory, shown when you reach it. It exists to stop your browser from running out of memory.
Does this upload my images?
No. All decoding and encoding runs in your browser. See the privacy page for what the site does collect.
Limits to know about
Conversion happens in your browser's memory, so very large images or very large batches can fail on devices with little memory. If that happens you will see a clear message, and you can retry with fewer files or the resize option.
